What is jurilinguistics?

Jurilinguistics is a scientific discipline whose object of study is the relationship between language and law.

Aims and tasks of jurilinguistics

  1. Continuously advancing theoretical knowledge of legal language and legal speech.
  2. Applied research into the language of law, legislative style and legislative drafting.
  3. Developing the methodological foundations for expressing legal norms in draft laws.
  4. Identifying wording that hinders the application of law in practice and recommending effective formulations.
  5. Unifying and standardising legal terminology.
  6. Legal translation studies, legal lexicography and legal technique.
  7. Linguo-legal review of normative legal acts.
  8. Translating normative acts and international treaties and ensuring their authenticity.
  9. Establishing the scientific basis for courses in the linguistic training of lawyers — Foundations of Legal Language, Writing Skills in Law, Language for Specific Purposes, The Art of Words in Law, Courtroom Rhetoric, Forensic Linguistics, Linguistic Expertise in Court, Foundations of Legal Drafting — and introducing them into teaching.
  10. Defining the “intersection point” of legal and linguistic science: the role of language in the development of law, and of law in the development of language.
  11. Studying the place and role of the state language, legal language and legal speech in the development of the country and society.
